article title 200,000 companies and organizations, including over 80 percent of the Fortune 500. An Overview of Features Enterprise microblogging is one of the many collaborative features and functions available to Yammer members. It allows an employee to start a conversation or read an existing conversation in real time. Just like other social media sites, members can create profiles by uploading their photos and outlining their expertise. Yammer allows the creation of collaborative groups that can be designated as private or public. This employees-only site lets users ask questions and get answers from a global community. Yammer also has a fully searchable knowledgebase to help find a particular conversation or keyword. Finally, what cutting-edge forum would be complete without an app? Yes, Yammer has a free application for smartphones so employees can access the site from almost anywhere. Company Considerations Social media sites have ultimately eliminated the need for a webmaster. Every person becomes a researcher, author and publisher. Before choosing to implement Yammer, an organization will most likely consider the size of the company, similar technology already in use, and the company policies and security measures that might apply to the management of the site. For example, management may want to consider how to communicate to employees that their company communication policy will apply to all interaction on the site. ILTA White Paper 11
