www.iltanet.org HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE READY The easiest way is to rate your experience with video communication within your firm. Record your answers to the questions below to grade your firm and determine which areas to focus your efforts on. 1. Do your meetings start on time? a. Systems are connected and waiting when I walk in the room. b. Most meetings start on time, but no more than five minutes late. c. Delays are a regular occurrence and/or require dedicated staff for every call. 2. Is the audio quality good on both ends of your calls? a. Audio quality is just right and would be acceptable for an eight-hour meeting. b. Audio quality is sometimes too loud or too soft; complaints regarding volume, clarity, intelligibility or even microphone coverage are noted regularly. c. A majority of calls have major audio issues. 3. Is the video quality sufficient to see facial expressions? a. Video quality is great and would be acceptable for an eight-hour meeting. b. Video quality is too fuzzy or grainy, or the lighting is so poor that it compromises our ability to see facial expression; complaints regarding picture quality are common. c. Video quality adds no value; not sure why we use it. Or we don't use video capabilities. 42 ILTA White Paper 4. Do you have the capability to share and see content? a. We have the capability to share and display more than presentations, including live documents, video depositions, physical evidence and more. b. I think so, but sharing content would not be practical in our rooms or is not often used. 8. Is a. b. c. c. We are not set up to share and see content. 5. Is your display sized correctly for the size of the room? 9. D part a. We can see presentation content and videoconferencing from all seats. a. b. Screen sizes are too small for the farthest seats; content is illegible for these seats. b. c. The display is difficult to see by most participants, so we do not even try to use it for content. c. 6. Are your controls intimidating? a. I feel confident enough to start and stop calls, move the camera and mute the microphones. 10. a b. I would be willing to do basic functions like making a call, but not much else. b c. The controls are not intuitive and/or stable; we do without the functionality or call staff for assistance. c 7. How is your room lighting? a. Lighting was designed for this application and provides excellent video quality. b. Lighting is okay, but it's not consistent for all participants or it creates harsh shadows on faces of participants. c. Lighting makes me look angry or tired; we avoid using video.
