Unlike waterfall approaches common in KM, LPM can benefit from a much more accelerated delivery of a payback. The continuous improvement processes of an agile approach start when the organization begins improvement by immediately building capabilities and deliverables on an advanced timetable not achievable in a waterfall approach. A core value of an agile approach is its real-time response capability. Therefore, LPM implementation and adoption need not be confined to or restricted by a firm's state of KM proficiency. Nor does an LPM initiative need to be derived 50 ILTA White Paper from the KM process approach. Because LPM and KM are different tools serving different purposes, each can be implemented independently of the other. Further, LPM is much more susceptible to an agile approach and can produce the desired efficiencies and quality of process management with the added capability of predictable pricing and on-time delivery that KM can never assure. Technology Applications Play a Role Of course, technology applications can be used as resource tools to support both KM and LPM initiatives.
