For example, you could configure SharePoint to apply additional weight to attorney biographies over otherwise similarly relevant content, which would generally push attorney biographies higher than other website content in the search results. It’s recommended to first identify a baseline for particular search terms prior to experimenting with authoritative page settings to assess the impact on your search results and to guard against unintended consequences when overriding SharePoint’s default relevancy settings. You can also influence search results by defining “best bets” and synonyms. Best bets allow you to associate a specific page with a search term and will force that page to show in the top results. Synonyms allow you to define one-way relationships between terms. As an example, you could define “IP” as a synonym for the keyword phrase “intellectual property.” A user searching for “IP” would then get results containing either “IP” or “intellectual property,” whereas a query on “intellectual property” would only return results of documents containing “intellectual property.” Two-way synonyms, if necessary, are a feature provided by FAST Search Server 2010. The “No Result Queries” report is useful for identifying search queries submitted by users on your website that returned no results.
