PEER TO PEER: THE QUARTERLY MAGA ZINE OF ILTA 70 Mary: Tim mentioned LinkedIn, which is the fastest-growing platform for professional connections. It's the one place I can go to see what's happening in people's professional lives. The other things I use, lightly, are Facebook and Twitter. I go there to pick up a little ambient information, which makes it easier to reconnect. Those tools aren't great for making initial connects, but they're not bad for keeping connections warm. I've also helped develop Broadli, which is an app that brings your trusted network together in a simple platform where you can request help to move your projects forward and provide critical assistance to others, thereby investing in your relationships with them. It's relationships that are important here. We're hopeful we can get people to act generously, turning their collections of connections into networks of generosity. Natalie: I'm a big advocate for both social media tools and traditional networking such as conferences and events. I like to have conversations on interesting topics within the LinkedIn feeds and groups. I'm also a fan of Twitter chats. I have also found a lot of value with professionals that use Facebook. Professionals have shied away from Facebook because they view it as a personal social network, but over the past year I have successfully used it to connect with more of my colleagues and professionals, and I am having good and engaging collaborative conversations. If I attend a conference or event in-person, I use social media to schedule and organize meetings.
