Even if your journey is not the same as
those who have been in the trenches for longer
– especially considering the unique moment
we find ourselves in with the exponential rise
of AI/GAI – the same fundamental challenges
and obstacles they had to solve in their careers
surrounding people, processes, and technology
still share similar rhythms to the problems and
pain points you are trying to solve.
Mentors can help you walk through
minefields, take the proper steps, and/or giant
A
s you journey through and
grow familiar with legal tech
spaces, here are five tips you
can use to begin building or
expanding your community:
• Find your community
• Seek out mentors
• Use what you have
• Leverage social media
• Be an Activator
1. Find your community
Before you can build your community, you need
to find it first. This sounds obvious, but it is a
crucial first step. Before diving in, pause to find
your footing in the larger legal tech ecosystem
and look for opportunities to get involved. Which
pathways for career growth are available?
Another thing to remember is that you
don't have to choose just one community – your
community can be a collection, or better yet, a
constellation, of the communities of different
organizations and groups aligning with your
interests.
ILTA, CLOC, LMA, and many other
excellent organizations have active communities
you can join and help build. But first, do your
research to identify communities that resonate
with you. Then jump in armed with options and
opportunities for growth.
2. Seek out mentors
Within your community (or communities),
countless others have gone through similar
journeys and often had to forge their paths
forward from scratch.
Today's legal technology community is vibrant, diverse, and collaborative, making it a perfect
environment for young technologists to immerse themselves and grow.
