Regardless of where work takes place, all kinds of workers report feelings of loneliness and even isolation while working. We all read about and experienced this during the COVID-19 pandemic when we were forced to work from home. However, loneliness and isolation in the workplace and our personal lives continue to exist. According to the 2024 Work in America survey, loneliness is a greater issue the younger you are. Nearly half, 45%, of those aged 18-25 said they feel lonely at work, versus 33% of those aged 26-43, 22% of those aged 44-57, and 14% of those 65+. The consequences of stress based on loneliness are critical. We cannot let a single person slip out of sight. What comes next? How we work, who we work with, and where we work is affecting the workforce. How we work with others, who we work with, and where we work affects our stress levels. Whether you are a lawyer at a law firm, be it a partner or associate, whether you are in IT or any other department – stress, burnout, or depression know no boundaries. It is time for Mental Health First Aid Training and a fully comprehensive program to be developed and implemented with every person, every level, and every department included.
