For example, if one of your core values is teamwork, a team member working on a project with a critical timeline who runs into an issue is more likely to come forward quickly. They will view the current challenge as an opportunity to collaborate. The result will be a positive, well- managed experience, regardless of outcome. Transparency reveals learnings and processes are enhanced to support continuous improvement. In the same situation where individual contribution is a driving motivator, a situation where employees perceive themselves to be under the gun can create isolation and be cause for panic and fear. This slows down the ability to make good, timely decisions. Momentum is lost, morale is impacted, and outcomes are not achieved or managed well. Opportunities for improvement are not capitalized upon and issues are likely to reoccur. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of core values and culture. Processes and technologies can be easily taught, core values cannot. Job Descriptions Job descriptions not only provide role clarity and define organizational contribution, but also represent purpose and should be designed with core values top of mind. They should call out the measurable benchmarks that define success and be revisited frequently. Business is fluid, we need to create space for our talent to provide deeper contribution. Job Descriptions serve as a mechanism to manage compensation scaling in alignment with skills and should be leveraged during the recruitment process to ensure competencies are matched to the role. They should be aligned to the performance evaluation process and be regularly assessed for required updates and growth opportunities. All of us can benefit from continuous improvement. Performance Evaluations Regular reviews are critical. If employees do not receive regular feedback, or only receive positive situational feedback, they may assume that no news is good news. Feedback should be provided and received on a regular basis, particularly positive feedback. When we give meaningful "The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team." - Phil Jackson "Customers will never love a company, unless the employees love it first." - Simon Sinek "The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement." - Helmut Schmidt
