As mentioned above, performance evaluations should be married to job descriptions. This allows for job description updates, recognizes successes (metric measurement), checks in on culture and drives Professional Development opportunities. It is our responsibility to support the ongoing improvement of our team, constantly building momentum and driving staff and customer experience satisfaction. Regularly scheduled performance reviews create cohesion and strengthen culture. Professional Development Ongoing growth is extremely important for all of us. Succession planning is critical to professional advancement and business continuity. Excellence is the ongoing pursuit of individual and collective advancement. Every team member needs a professional development plan. These plans provide clarity around expectations. In some instances, employees do not see their future clearly, or appreciate the organizational opportunity to support the broader aspirations of the team. Professional Development plans provide a mechanism for further clarity, action and accountability. It's an opportunity to identify competencies and skill requirements that will become career path milestones. It removes the ambiguity born of unspoken assumptions that can leave people feeling under appreciated and even stuck. That is not to say that every individual is on, or even desires, an upward trajectory. The contribution of every team member is key to the overall success of the business. For those individuals who choose a specialist career path, mastery should be a focus. We can always take more ground! Meeting Cadences It's important to give voice to your team. Regular One-on-Ones with your team members are a great way to check in. These meetings are opportunities to find out how things are going for them. These can, but are not required to, include personal information sharing. Personal problems can lead to failure in meeting business objectives. If individuals choose to share personal aspects of their lives, welcome it. You may gain insight that will help you better support a valuable team member, deepen your relationship and offer coaching opportunities.
