Be mindful of your motivations and level of need, we can easily fall prey to ignoring the signs and making a choice in the interest of expediency or urgency of need. That is not to say that every candidate will be perfect, who among us is? Go into the process with objectivity; awareness will allow you manage and support growth of any non-critical challenges. Leverage alignment assessments. These tools validate candidate technical qualifications, values/ beliefs and typical work behaviour and execution style. Conative assessments such as Kolbe will help you confirm candidate fit. Simply put, the conative represents how we take action and our approach to productivity. It allows us to identify candidates who will mesh with existing team strengths and/or screen for past mistakes. I have taken this assessment myself and it has helped me to understand my working strengths and to how better to leverage the strengths of those around me. It's a powerful combination that increases productivity and collaboration. Behavioural assessments such as Thomas Personal Profile Assessment will reveal aptitude, emotional intelligence and workplace behaviour. These types of assessments provide meaningful insight into the candidate and support cultural alignment and set the stage for a successful onboarding experience for new hires. Ultimately, we have a responsibility to all parties when recruiting. When properly understood and leveraged we manage cost of acquisition, ensure staff retention and support a "winning" culture. Core Values/Culture Core values are the backbone of any organization, whether clearly defined and modelled or unconsciously developed by the collective. These values drive our behaviours and can be directly tied to business outcomes. Organizations that understand their core values and exercise good hiring practices that include alignment checks, will develop a culture that is based on attraction rather than promotion. Individual autonomous contribution will increase, as will the ability to make decisions in difficult situations with ease. Core "An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage." - Jack Welch "The way a team behaves as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth
