51 I L T A N E T . O R G Firms on the cutting edge can expect more predictive modeling, matter planning, and forecasting – but not on a case by case (no pun intended) basis, for every matter and client. The adaptive experience means that firms can more easily predictive staffing levels using technolo, just based on the records of what staffing for similar cases looked like. Adaptive experiences are where we predict the largest growth across the firm. Lawyers and allied professionals alike will benefit from adaptive experiences, especially because there are so many places for the adaptive experience to be integrated into a law firm because it's all about review and analysis for both the front and back office. Down with the laborious time card tracking. Fee earning professionals will be able to do their work while technolo is tracking their activities and machine learning, determining if the email they wrote or the document they reviewed is billable. Then at the end of the day present, the professional is presented with a constructed timecard that only needs to be reviewed and edited before submitting. A significant reduction in time spent on non-billable activities. For the billing managers, we see technolo become intuitive and learning how to autofill information – an experience that's pretty normal in a program like Google Chrome, where you can save your name, number, address, and even credit card information for ease of filling out forms or making a purchase. Data entry will become a thing of the past, meaning firms can focus on sending out bills instead of having to worry about keying in each data point individually. The Move to the Cloud Perhaps the least surprising of our predictions is complete adoption of the cloud – using someone else's servers to house a law firm's data and legal practice management software. This won't be an easy pill to swallow – Aderant's own 2019 Business of Law survey showed that 37% of respondents said their firm would not be moving to the cloud in the foreseeable future, citing lack of buy-in. However, 18% of firms were working on moving their critical systems to the cloud in the next 18-24 months. Only 2% were completely reliant on the cloud – we'd consider these early adopters and the ones that are leading the charged based on what we see in the technolo space.
