52 P E E R T O P E E R : I L T A ' S Q U A R T E R L Y M A G A Z I N E | S P R I N G 2 0 2 0 F E A T U R E S Most of our information, from our family photos to critical systems, lives in the cloud. While security is always at the forefront of the cloud conversation, cybersecurity has become less of a concern because of the lengths cloud providers go to ensure that their client's data is protected. Law firms may find it hard to match the expertise of these vendors brings to the table. The cloud allows for the greatest access to information, wherever you can find an internet connection, which means more flexibility, something else millennials are looking for in their workplaces. It also can be a cost-saving measure, preventing firms from having to foot the bill for hardware and upgrades and potential disaster recovery – which could mean losing some of all data because of one unpredictable catastrophe. We find that the benefits of the cloud for law firms are becoming more apparent every day, and as we continue to move forward with technolo, the cloud is unavoidable. As more of the baby boomer generation heads towards retirement age, we see the millennial shift in law firms start to happen. It's reflected in the numbers of millennials working in law firms and how their experiences growing up with technolo have shaped the present and the future of legal technolo. While these are just three predictions based on what we see in and outside of law firms, bear in mind that technolo outpaces us at every turn. We may hit these benchmarks by 2023, leaving plenty of room for innovation from millennials and maybe even the next generation, Gen Z.
