Assume that the consumerization of IT will continue. convenience offered by new mobile platforms without jeopardizing data security and client relations? Here are some recommendations: • Assume that the consumerization of IT will continue. Invest in platforms that support multiple mobile platforms, including iOS, Android and BlackBerry, and ensure that whatever you're deploying in the next few years will support tablets (especially the iPad). • Deploy an MDM solution to enforce device-specific controls and policies. • Deploy a secure mobile file-sharing solution that complements the MDM solution and supports secure file synchronization across devices and secure file-sharing — while ensuring that the firm has full control over, and visibility into, file-sharing activities. • Deploy the mobile file-sharing solution in a secure environment, such as a private cloud environment, owned and managed by the firm. Don't trust consumer-class services, which store your data in their own data centers. • Block consumer-class services such as Dropbox to close "back doors" that circumvent security controls and jeopardize data security. • Educate users about the risks of mobile file-sharing. Encourage them to follow best practices and to use approved tools. By following these recommendations, law firms can ensure that attorneys enjoy the benefits of mobile computing and paperless workflows without putting confidential files in jeopardy. • Integrate the mobile file-sharing solution with your enterprise infrastructure, including LDAP/AD and content management systems such as SharePoint or iManage.
