73 WWW.ILTANET.ORG A DMS Snapshot Like many technologies moving from purely professional use to consumerization, document management systems are evolving so rapidly that it is only possible to provide a snapshot of their current state and projections of where they are going. As they move into the hands of clients, it is useful to examine the current state of your own firm's DMS versus today's leading technologies. » iManage: The recent split from HP has increased development innovation at iManage, and the current version of its Share product (formerly LinkSite) deserves a fresh look. Developers have integrated a secure file-sharing service with the existing DMS that includes metadata-scrubbing and automatic conversion of scanned documents into OCR text upon an import. Content can be shared externally from a Workspace with a single click –– a great help to time-starved legal teams. Internal end users can access content through iOS and Android apps. The recent 9.3 releases of the Work and Share applications support Office 2016. » NetDocuments: NetDocuments has been cloud-based technology for over a decade; and with recent innovation and growth it has been on a tear throughout the industry. This platform automatically supports cloud-based collaboration internally, externally or through ShareSpaces, digital rooms for sharing with external parties. A native iOS mobile application supports fully integrated access to documents on- and offline with internal and external sharing and collaboration. The current release of ndOffice 1.7 supports Office 2016. » Worldox: Worldox provides a hosted Soware as a Service (SaaS) solution called Worldox/Web Mobile that installs a proxy application on its Indexer computer. This allows a mobile iOS application to search and access documents within the system. A Web-based application also provides familiar functionality and access for those already using the desktop application. Office 2016 is supported through the GX3/4 versions. These changes are critical in today's move toward hosted environments. We now routinely accommodate clients' expectations to use our document management systems as a collaboration method that is far more secure than using generic file- sharing tools. Third-Party Tools Vendors like DocsCorp, Litéra and Workshare are advancing their tools to beer support Office 2016 and the legal profession's transition to the cloud. They are providing cloud-hosted platforms to utilize their document redlining and comparison, metadata, OCR, and PDF tools. Support for Office 365 and mobile applications is a given.
