WWW.ILTANET.ORG 41 FEATURE EVALUATION The Surface in full edit mode closely resembles the installed version with the same nine ribbon tabs. Full functionality is available from applying styles from the Style gallery to inserting a new section break from the Page Layout tab. On the Review tab, the Track Changes display is called All Markup. A unique feature in the Surface version is Ink Comment, available in the Comments group; when tapped, this allows you to handwrite a comment. Tap Eraser and swipe over the text to remove the comment. Additional writing tools are available on the contextual tab that displays when using this feature. We did not expect too much editing ability when we got to the phones due to a 2" x 4" document screen size, and we confirmed that phones are best used for reading documents. FEATURES Both the Android and Windows phones displayed the page number and total number of pages in the document. The on- screen reading experience was great, and it was easy to navigate through the document. FINAL NOTES • Depending on the phone, you might be limited to reading the document or very basic editing. • When reopening the edited document in the installed version of Word, comments marked as done and replies inserted with the Windows phone were intact. While the numbering did not display accurately on either phone, the unedited numbering reflected the original numbering scheme. FINAL NOTES • Third-party applications (COM add-ins) can be installed on the Surface. This is a plus since an organization using third-party tools in the installed version can have the same tools available on the road when using the Surface. • When reopening the edited document in the installed version of Word, the new Ink comment and highlights all displayed accurately. • After reopening the edited document in the installed version of Word, all edits and formatting appeared to be perfect. Surface Pro We expected the Surface to be closest to the installed version of Word, and we were right. The document opens in Read Mode. To edit, tap the View tab and then tap Edit Document. Android and Windows Phone THE DETAILS ARE IN THE FEATURES: General Comments • View page number and total number of pages in document • Navigate easily to numbered paragraphs • Search, make basic edits and save and open other files Basic Editing • Type text and apply basic formatting, such as bold, italics, underlines and highlights Multilevel Numbering • Similar to Office Online, the numbering displayed did not reflect original numbering Comments • Displays as a blue conversation box over the text • Tapping the comment box splits the screen (comment displays in lower half) • Insert, delete and edit comments as needed Track Changes • View tracked changes
