• The realities that have grown out of the vision of “green” IT • Whether clients care about a firm’s green initiatives • The work by members of the Legal Sector Alliance to publicly measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions In the session “Follow the Money: Future of Financial Applications in Law Firms,” panelists debated how the economic downturn has shaped financial and organizational change for the long term. The Law Technology 2020 track included the session “Social Media: Not Just for Teenagers Anymore” where panelists explored the impact of social media on the legal industry and the tools and issues around social media use in a business environment. In “Life in the Clouds: The Future of Cloud Computing,” panelists offered their perspectives on this admittedly hot topic. Panelists Doug Cadell, Paul Greenwood, Simon Kosminsky and David Bennett debated the appropriateness of choosing cloud computing solutions for applications such as document management and IT infrastructure as a whole. In “How to Say Yes to iPads,” presenters discussed legal adoption of iPads, with a focus on its size being a potential game- changer, making them increasingly popular with lawyers for a variety of applications. The conference concluded with a recap of the highlights of the day’s sessions, a brief discussion of ILTA and our annual conference that will be held in Nashville, Tennessee in August and a reception sponsored by leading legal IT vendors. The content discussed throughout the day emphasized both the challenges and opportunities available to law firms that recognize the need to adapt and leverage technology to support necessary transformational change and be successful into the next decade.
