PEER TO PEER: THE QUARTERLY MAGA ZINE OF ILTA 32 Whatcha Readin? The ILTA community is filled with avid readers, and here are some of their recent recommendations. EARTH by David Brin He wrote this science fiction book in 1989/1990, and it is freakishly spot on with its technology and social problem predictions. Beau Mersereau of Fish & Richardson P.C. THE 48 LAWS OF POWER by Robert Greene This book was quite interesting. After reading it, I started observing many traits the author described in highly successful people I met. My favorite of the 48 laws that related to legal was "There is nothing more intoxicating than victory, and nothing more dangerous." Anyone who's seen an attorney after a huge win can relate! Some of the content doesn't necessarily apply to life in a law firm, but this is definitely a book I'll keep on the shelf for reference. David Michel of Rissman, Barrett, Hurt, Donahue & McLain, P.A. CATCH ME IF YOU CAN by Frank Abagnale The book details the fascinating story of how Frank (beginning at the young age of 17) passed himself off for years as an airline pilot, a medical doctor and a college professor. Frank became the most notorious con-man and forger in history, passing millions of dollars in forged checks before he turned 21. In our age of heightened security awareness, it is a chilling reminder of how "people" are the weakest link in the security chain. It's also an entertaining book and an easy read! Scott Christensen of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP KINGPIN; HOW ONE HACKER TOOK OVER THE BILLION DOLLAR CYBERCRIME UNDERGROUND by Kevin Poulsen I started reading this after one of my firm's senior partners recommended it. This was his selling point: "It might be the single scariest book I've read in 10 years. What these guys are capable of doing to so-called secure websites is unbelievable." I'll know more once I get into the book, but it sounds like a good read. John Jelderks of Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP
