ILTA’s 2010 T 4 he responses for our 2010 IT staffing survey were gathered in late fall of 2010. While the survey was updated to help our members better understand law firm IT staffing structures, the basic format is similar to what we’ve used in prior years, with the exception of 2009. In 2009, we departed significantly from our standard format to learn how law firm IT departments were addressing that year’s shocking economic conditions. Therefore, where our analysis addresses trends, we compared this year’s data to the 2008 responses. We think you will agree that the perspective is useful for helping us understand what effects linger from the dramatic economic downturn that is now over two years old. 2010 IT Staffing Survey www.iltanet.org IT Staffing Survey THANKS TO OUR RESPONDENTS! We received responses from 212 law firms this year, compared to 333 in 2009 and 229 in 2008. Small firms, those with 150 or fewer users, represented 47.6% of the respondents in 2010 vs. 41% in 2008. Medium firms (151 to 250 users) made up 16.5% in 2010 and 20% in 2008. Large firms, those with 251 to 500 users, represented 20.3% of our respondents, slightly higher compared to 17% in 2008. Very large firms (501+ users) comprised 14.2% of our respondents in 2010, down from 22% in 2008. Note that this information does not indicate a shift in membership demographics; rather, it simply reflects differences in the number of firms choosing to respond to the survey.
