36 A DESIGN THAT WORKS Early iterations of the dashboard explored various visualization formats, including pie charts and stacked bar charts. However, the volume of data quickly became overwhelming. Maryna pivoted to a more streamlined design featuring two interactive tables: • Skill-Based Exploration: Users can click on a skill to see which roles it aligns with. • Role-Based Exploration: Users can select a role to view the relevant skills associated with it. This design strikes a balance between simplicity and depth, making the matrix both accessible and insightful. It allows users to explore the data from multiple angles without getting lost in complexity. Committee members describe Maryna's contributions as transformative and instrumental in shaping the committee's direction. Feedback played a crucial role in refining the matrix. Initial confusion over subcategories prompted Maryna to reorganize the data, resulting in a cleaner and more readable format. Rebecca Sattin, the current co-chair of the Women in Legal Security Advisory Committee, also played a key role in collaborating with Maryna to streamline the dataset, ensuring that the final product was both accurate and user-friendly. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS AND BROADER IMPACT While integrating external datasets, such as salary benchmarks, remains a challenge due to variability across states and roles, the committee is exploring surveys to gather more user feedback. Future enhancements may include: • Automating data updates to keep the matrix current and relevant. • Expanding the matrix to cover other legal tech disciplines. • Incorporating AI-driven predictive analytics to help users identify career paths and skill gaps. Maryna envisions AI as a supportive tool, one that requires human oversight to ensure relevance and clarity. She emphasizes that while AI can enhance the matrix, it should not replace the human judgment and lived experience that inform its design. VIEW THE SKILL MATRIX DASHBOARD www.iltanet.org/wis
