n 2019, ILTA's leadership committed to prioritizing Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI) with the formation of the DEI Task Force. As a result, ILTA
adopted a new Core Value in 2020: Foster diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout
the ILTA community. The purpose of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
(DEIC) is to advance this doctrine while remaining flexible and responsive to
change. The committee is responsible for delivering DEI-centered educational and
professional development content, as well as creating peer networking opportunities
that align with ILTA's principles. The DEIC also administers the DEI Climate Survey
which serves as an essential tool to assess progress and gather insights from our
staff, volunteers, and membership regarding their perceptions and experiences
related to DEI. This year's survey, an extension of our inaugural effort in 2020,
reflects both continuity in our goals and an evolving understanding of DEI within our
community.
The ILTAns Have Spoken
We take seriously the challenge and opportunity to listen to our community. The
2024 DEI Climate Survey saw a 5.5% increase in responses compared to 2020, giving
greater insight into ILTA's DEI initiatives. The analysis of responses highlighted
several themes which align with ILTA's long-term objectives to foster a more inclusive
environment for all members.
