Nominee / L I F E T I M E A C H I E V E M E N T A W A R D Philip helped create the tone and community ethics for the legal KM community by being inclusive, inquisitive, intelligent, and fair at the outset. He believes that the frank and free exchange of ideas leads to innovation and advancement. Philip graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1978. He is a long-term provider of mentorship for law students, as well as a regular guest lecturer on the business of law and knowledge management at both Cornell Law School and his alma mater. In 2001, Philip founded a KM group for large law firms in NY who met roughly monthly. The group created the annual global law firm KM summit that occurs in New York after Legal Week, an event that now is known as SKILLS (Strategic Knowledge and Innovation Legal Leaders' Summit). Volunteerism has been meaningful and satisfying for Philip. He appreciates opportunities to provide support and guidance for those entering the legal profession or choosing to focus particularly on knowledge management or legal innovation. Since 2019, he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Practicing Law Institute (PLI), and for several years was the Chair of the Board's Nominating and Governance Committee. Philip is a frequent presenter and speaker at NY law firm KM group events, global events, ILTA and ARK conferences, and David Cowen's SOLID events. When Catherine Monte first developed the idea of having fledgling legal knowledge management organizations gather under the ILTA umbrella, Philip and many others embraced the initiative. Since then, many key players in the KM community have filled leadership and planning roles with ILTA. He believes the KM and related disciplines have brought new dimensions to ILTA and helped accelerate the connections between legal business and technology. Moreover, ILTA participation helped Philip develop invaluable personal and professional connections and extensive knowledge. PHILIP BRYCE Awards & Certifications 2022 Mayer Brown Knowledge Management Business Services team was a finalist for a Financial Times Business Services Team of the Year award.
