Seek Subject Matter
Experts.
Recruit power users as content creators to
develop mini-assignments based on typical
scenarios that require the use of technology
tools. Content creators will play a critical role
in shaping the training by providing input on
design and contributing their experience using
the tools in real-life settings. Power users can
be recruited on a rolling basis to develop new
mini-assignments or refresh existing mini-
assignments, so the content is constantly
renewed, and more users are engaged.
Play It Back as if for the First Time.
Tap into the content creator's expertise. The mini-assignments should lay out the content creator's
thought process, making explicit the tacit knowledge inside their heads, including, for example:
Context for the assignment
Describe how this scenario comes up and why it is important.
Step-by-step approach
Define the problem, describe how technology tools are used, identify other available
resources, specify the deliverable.
Practice tips
Point out red flags to watch out for.
If you are rolling out training for a new tool and don't yet have power users, consider enlisting
the support of the relevant subject matter expert and vendor.
