Encourage team members to learn from each other and share their expertise. • Regularly review the knowledge transfer process to identify any gaps or areas that require further attention. • Compile a list of contacts, industry experts, external networks, relevant books, and online resources. • Even after you retire, be available for consultation or to answer any questions during the initial transition period. In summary, effective knowledge transfer requires patience, open communication, and a supportive environment. Decision Time I started an idealistic journey, gained a lot of perspective and now I have to dig in and get it done if I want to be sure my organization voice doesn't fade (too fast!). I leave My plan for the four months until I retire is to ask these questions: (questions everyone should be asking themselves): • Does anyone need or want the information I plan to share? My ego is not important here, it's about what will be helpful as I go. • Is it a priority for someone to know this, is it critical to success? Same note re ego ☻. • What can't be passed on, including relationships? Mourn these and move on… • What shouldn't be passed on, like old stories that had no value except to me? Don't include that in the plan. • I started with a big bucket of stuff. Is what I will pass on curated so that it is useful? Final Note I am retiring from work but not disappearing. Fred Rogers said "Often when you think you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else." A part of me belongs to ILTA and ILTACON, so anyone betting on whether ILTACON 2023 will be my last ILTACON appearance, might lose their bet.
