65 I L T A N E T . O R G knowledge-sharing from anywhere and everywhere. ILTA has a specific membership category (Associate Member) that allows anyone who is retired from the legal profession to apply for status to gain access to ILTA member benefits. There are many forums for these members to share their experience, as they choose how much to offer. It's a good thing, and something I would like to help foster when I join those ranks. Two other things happened, well three actually, that impacted my knowledge sharing plan/schedule. The first was being named one of ILTA's "Influential Women in Legaltech" for 2023. I was given a set of questions to answer: • how I have influenced the legal technology space • what accomplishments I am most proud of • how I make sure there are seats at the table for women in the industry • one challenge within legal technology I hope to help solve. Answering those questions for ILTA gave me another perspective for the knowledge sharing plan. It forced some thinking around what I hope to leave behind for others to continue in my organization. The second event was being nominated for and then receiving ILTA's Lifetime Achievement Award (an absolute highlight in my career!!). The award application asked me to provide examples of: • efforts to advance the profession and peers • activities that demonstrate leadership in promoting technology in legal • approaches and techniques for supporting innovation in legal • ways I embodied ILTA's core values, speaking opportunities and articles It was a good exercise to look back at my career to find the examples. I recommend the exercise to you, to help focus on all the great things you've done and to on what needs to be passed on to others. Here's a link to my award acceptance video for a few ideas. (add link to my acceptance speech). The third event took a bigger bite out of my knowledge sharing schedule. My hip replacement surgery was scheduled after a two year wait, and was accomplished successfully in April. The recovery has been a bit harder than I expected, taking only two weeks off work and then easing back in. What this reminds us is that life happens, and schedules have to be flexible to allow for the unexpected. Perspective: ChatGPT After my analysis, research and solicitation of opinions, I decided to collaborate a bit with ChatGPT in developing my formal plan. Here are highlights of that collaboration. If you are interested in more of the details, I'm happy to share. • Identify the critical knowledge areas that need to be transferred to others. • Determine key stakeholders, individuals or teams who will benefit most from your knowledge. These could be direct reports, colleagues, or successors. • Document what you can, create guides, manuals, or standard operating procedures (SOPs) that outline your processes, best practices, and insights. • Set a timeline for the knowledge transfer process, it will probably take longer than you think. • Consider different methods to transfer knowledge effectively: one- on-one mentoring sessions, team training, workshops, shadowing opportunities, or knowledge sharing platforms.
