17 I L T A N E T . O R G manager and analyst of research content for a large law firm, I rely upon these learned skills as well as my character strengths. Saying yes to opportunities may have led to this moment in my career, but my uncle's comment helped me recognize which opportunities would fit well with my personality. What are you most proud of accomplishing? Some specific accomplishments come to mind, but on a daily basis I take the most pride in coming up with new ideas to improve procedures, requests to contribute to projects, and especially when I can support my colleagues in meaningful ways. What life lessons has your work taught you? I believe that you will never regret taking opportunities- even if the opportunity did not pan out as expected, those experiences morph into life lessons. I don't have much regret, but any I've experienced originates from an opportunity not taken. What qualities makes a good leader? Qualities like integrity, empathy, authenticity, vision, and patience are all extremely important in a leader, and especially strong communication skills. Do you have a life philosophy? Where does it originate and how does it shape who you are? Be on time, do what you need to do, and do it to the best of your ability. These three simple "life rules" were posted on my fifth grade classroom wall and to this day this guidance has served me well. I would add one more: be kind always. What advice would you give to your younger self? Set healthy work-life boundaries. Keep an open mind. Embrace the new and uncomfortable as it is the only way to grow. To paraphrase Marlo Thomas, put your blinders on and run your own race- I have found that comparison to others really is the death of happiness. Lastly, I would tell my younger self to continue being adventurous- a global pandemic may hamper your efforts in the future, but you will near your goal of visiting 100 countries!
