33 I L T A N E T . O R G Durgesh Sharma, CIO at Littler Mendelson, has said, "Anyone building from scratch at this point is developing cloud natively." And that, "Cloud-native solutions are winning the race to meet the immediate demands of consumers, including true scalability, seamless integration opportunities, compliance with data sovereignty laws and other local regulations, and the ability to bring solutions to market quickly. On-prem technology vendors that are supporting their current products and simultaneously trying to build a cloud solution are naturally going to lag behind, and the user experience could suffer because the vendor's resources are stretched too thinly." Single-Click Automation Dan Hauck recently penned a blog article in conjunction with NetDocuments' acquisition of Afterpattern, a document automation platform. The strategic vision will help legal teams easily create complex automations that result in the generation of legal documents needed to power their organizations. Says Dan, "We talked to dozens of customers recently about what they need. Consistently, they pointed to the requirement for repeatable outputs that let them run their legal operations at greater scale and higher efficiency than ever before. That's how they win more business and ensure high-quality results for their clients. But what stood out most in talking with customers is their desire for this document and workflow automation to be built right into the NetDocuments platform." It makes sense. NetDocuments is the largest cloud platform where legal professionals do work, and creating these documents is part of how lawyers execute their work. Bringing document automation directly to NetDocuments — where the matter, workspace templates, security access, tasks, and so much more are already present — makes it easier and faster to automate. More details are coming in Q3 2022. Combating the Great Resignation with Rewarding Technology While there are complex reasons for the recent "Great Resignation," what's resulted is an epic search for talent with dramatic wage increases and recruiters struggling to staff open positions. Not only do you need a DMS that helps you eliminate data leakage and the loss of knowledge as talent leaves, you also need a platform that is intuitive, collaboration-friendly, and makes it easy to access legacy information and quickly onboard new lawyers and staff. Luke Schnoebelen, Director of Professional Development at Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P, sees technology playing a significant role in the future of employee satisfaction and well-being. "The 'Great Resignation' is presenting new opportunities to get creative with how technology supports an individual's success." He adds, "Leaders need to keep a fresh pulse on how their people are doing and encourage the automation of administrative tasks that could free up time for more meaningful work, upskilling, and building better business relationships." Organizations that attract and retain top talent will be utilizing tech that promotes efficiencies and contributes to a healthy work-life balance. Privacy & Security as-a-Service A recent security report in the UK and analysis by NetDocuments, reveals that 68% of identified data breaches in the UK legal sector were caused by insiders. This highlights the need for law firms to prioritize addressing threats from within and invest in the latest data security and governance controls. A corresponding ILTA webinar with NetDocuments shares how firms can maintain security standards amidst the Great Resignation and internal cybersecurity risks.
