69 I L T A N E T . O R G E ver struggle with "what" diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) is all about? "Why" it's so important? And "how" the organizations you consider yourself a part of can make a difference? If this resonates with you, then watch for a series of articles to come in the 2021 editions of Peer to Peer that explore these questions in the context of business and the impact the actions of an organization can have on the performance or the firm, company, department or team. Members of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force have considered these questions occasionally and thought that members of ILTA would enjoy and potentially benefit from hearing a viewpoint on the topic. Planned to be practical and pragmatic, this series of articles will first seek to define "what" diversity, equity and inclusion is and signs that indicate when an organization has "go it". From there, the next three articles will address "why" DE&I is so important from a business perspective. Each article in turn will focus on one facet of what we see as three important pillars of business – • Value Creation – the things an organization does to create value for its clients/stakeholders and itself. • Business Operation – the processes and activities an organization takes on to "operate" the business, keep the engines running daily. • People and Culture Development – the often intangible (and sometimes tangible) "ether" that makes an organization what it is and its importance in the growth and evolution of its people and its culture. The final article will then build on the insights and advocacy in the articles on "why" to deliver a practical and concrete set of ideas that make it easy to understand, and to act on - the "how". In other words – an article filled with suggestions on what an organization can do to make an impact on its practice/business through support and advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion. The goal of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force in writing these articles is to provide the members of ILTA insight on DE&I that can be applied in some way to the business in which you participate. No matter what your role is in the firm/company – we hope that what we share will give you something to act with in your own efforts to support and promote DE&I. Work is beginning now to outline the articles. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force wants to hear from you on what you see as the "what, why and how" or questions that we can try to address in the article series. Post your thoughts and questions in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion ILTA community or drop us a line at deitf@iltanet.org. ILTA The What, Why and How of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
