5 I L T A N E T . O R G Q&A If Security, AI, Cloud, and Innovation are #buzzwords, does that make them any less important in our technical world? James McKenna: If anything, Security has become more important. "Your" data continues to move away from your office and physical controls. "Security" has transformed into "Secure IT". In a Work From Home world, if your information technology is not secure, you'll soon be seeking LinkedIn Recommendations. Ginevra Saylor: Security and innovation have always been core to legal practice and always will be — with or without the buzz; AI and the cloud have become critically important – again, with or without the buzz. Chris Hunt: Security is hugely important, and even more so in this remote work environment we are all dealing with. AI, Cloud, Innovation – to a degree they are buzzwords, but they also represent the potential for improving our organizations. The titles don't matter as much as what they stand for – new ways of thinking, new ways of doing, and new ways of helping our organizations to take the next step forward into a new world. Angela Dowd: Not at all. All three are import forces in our technical world. The fact that they are buzzwords is an invitation to have conversations within our organization about how they impact us. Jack Thompson: The concept of the buzzword is usually something which has been in existence for some time however call something different – the "buzzword" is simply the new noun or adjective to draw attention to the concept. Buzzwords are immaterial provided the concept of Security, AI, or Cloud is relevant – a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is still a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if you call it "PB&J" or "nutty buddy" or "nutter butter and grapes". Kara Portwood: Buzzwords or not, I think the past few weeks has taught us the value of security, cloud and innovation. I think the challenge for all of us is to find through those "buzzwords", meaningful ways to bring value to our firms and continue to look to the future for what is ahead. Chris Boyd: I question the premise that those are buzzwords. They represent real issues and opportunities for ILTA and its members and business partners to continue exploring and improving. Joy Heath Rush: In a world where we are truly innovating every day simply to cope with the latest change in the global situation, Security, AI, Cloud, and Innovation are less buzzwords and more destinations and mindsets.
