he data provided by the
Litigation Support Survey is
always valuable – this year is no
exception. It was a year of planned
and unplanned modifications as
we strived to focus on results that would provide
useful information rather than following a status
quo without reason.
This year, we streamlined the survey and we
purposefully restructured and eliminated some
questions to focus on the work done, rather than
who was performing the work. This enabled us
to move away from the in-house/outsource focus.
Additionally, in past surveys the survey drafting
team would propose answers for the survey takers
to select the programs and tools they use for the
various functions. We frankly hit a wall in our
ability to know every piece of software being used
and listing all possible answers. In past years, the
'Other' category was frequently used for write in
answers, so we designed the questions to allow
those taking the survey to fill in the blanks to list
programs and solutions in use.
In sum, for the 2020 survey our focus is to
keep metrics that we value and limit the scope of
