DICTAT ION FOR T HE
MOBILE ATTORNEY
Founded in 1962 and headquartered in
Philadelphia, PA, Marshall Dennehey Warner
Coleman & Goggin is a leading defense litigation
law firm with over 450 attorneys in 18 offices
throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, New
Jersey, New York and Ohio. Marshall Dennehey
began exploring options in 2007 to assist our
attorneys in making dictation easier for everyone.
Our goals were to improve efficiency and reduce
turnaround time from dictation to transcription.
We had some challenges to overcome, such as
attorneys dictating to voicemail when they were
mobile and the use of the dreaded cassette type
dictation devices (remember those?). There were
issues with flexibility when it came to workload
and distributing work between office locations.
With multiple office locations, there were times
when it would have been beneficial to distribute
the transcription workload among staff, but this
was not possible with the use of tapes. Also, if a
tape broke, most likely the entire dictation was lost
and could not be recovered. As a result, there was
a loss of billable time. There were other issues as
well: the potential for lost tapes when transferred
between office locations, misplaced tapes and long
turnaround times. We hoped to address all these
issues with our new dictation software selection.
