The legal leadership team will identify the change champions who will lead the initial phases of this engagement. The initial phase consists of understanding the current state of the legal team, gathering data and facts, and identifying the various shared and more bespoke problems faced by the legal team. S P R I N T 1 : I N N O V A T I O N W O R K S H O P The change champions will gather the outputs from the diagnostic, identify key focus areas for the wider legal team to ideate about, and form working groups around each of these focus areas. Each working group should be assigned a sponsor from your legal leadership team to provide guidance and help overcome any delivery impediments. Through a facilitated workshop with the wider legal team, more specific focus areas for transformation will be identified and validated, classified into legal and non-legal areas, and then prioritised. At this stage, the full legal team (including both lawyers and support staff) should also be trained in the core principles of continuous improvement and legal project management, as well as being provided with an overview of relevant legal technologies, in order to provide a foundational level of knowledge in approach, tools and mindset. S P R I N T 2 : D E S I G N Each working group of change champions will progress their top prioritised focus area through the first three stages of the Continuous Improvement approach: by investigating the problems with the legal teams and the business stakeholders, creating solution designs, and then developing a detailed and practical implementation plan. At the end of this sprint, each working group will present a proposed solution back to your legal leadership team for approval. S P R I N T 3 : D E L I V E R Y Each working group progresses through the final two stages of the Continuous Improvement approach, during which they: validate and finalise their solutions, implementation plans, resourcing plans and implementation partners; and then proceed to implement and sustain their solutions.
