Testing logon procedures and core litigation support applications will show that programs run as expected prior to full migration of all users. By testing, you can make certain that application and data vulnerabilities are addressed prior to full roll-out within the organization. This is also a great time to address concerns individuals may have prior to training on new systems being introduced or rolled out by the newly formed organization. Creating training materials to go along with any new policies or procedures will go a long way to establish success and build trust among users. Sharing this documentation via portals or weekly e-mail updates will assure users that that the materials are easy to access. These materials may be wrien documents, video tutorials or even tips-and-tricks handouts to supplement in-person training sessions with users. In all of this, you want to leave users with the understanding that people are available to assist them if needed. Soliciting feedback and following up with users are also critical components to ensuring project success. Be sure to follow up and take notes on elements of the project that were difficult or presented issues for team members. If you create core documents upfront you will be able to use them again, should you go down the road of a merger or acquisition. As you can see, it is imperative to be involved at the beginning of a merger or acquisition. In the case of litigation support, whether it be with a legal firm or a corporation, this can be achieved if you make your voice heard with top leaders of the company. Your early involvement pays off for everyone in the organization in the end. ILTA DEREK BOOR Derek Boor has provided service at Dentons US LLP for 17 years in Litigation Support. He started his career in Litigation Support as a data analyst and eventually moving into the Discovery Technology Services role overseeing the firms applications and data infrastructure.
