AFAs with Microsoft Reporting Services
Monitor
by Chris Emerson of Bryan Cave LLP
Like most firms, Bryan Cave has seen its number of alternative fee arrangement engagements continue to grow. While recognizing that correct pricing is a critical component in positive outcomes on alternative fees, we also find that an equally critical component is tracking and monitoring them so attorneys (and sometimes clients) know how they are doing against the fixed fee or budget and so they can make appropriate decisions.
Chris is the Director of the Practice Economics Group at Bryan Cave LLP, where he assists lawyers in all stages of alternative fee project management, including pricing, managing and communicating status to the legal teams and to clients. In addition to his focus on alternative fees, Chris also has a decade of experience in BI and software development at Bryan Cave. He can be contacted at cemerson@bryancave.com.
The decision on how to monitor AFAs was an easy one at Bryan Cave, given that we have used Microsoft's Reporting Services for many years.
