66 PEER TO PEER: THE QUARTERLY MAGAZINE OF ILTA | SPRING 2017 With the 2016 announcement of the retirement of longtime ILTA Executive Director, Randi Mayes, ILTA's Board needed to find the right new leader for ILTA and to envision ILTA's future. Kate Cain explained the Board's vision for ILTA: "To remain relevant in this changing environment, ILTA must continue to evolve. We must provide multiple channels for communicating needs and expectations and leverage what we have to offer. We must empower our members and staff to translate those needs and expectations into deliverables and connection opportunities. We must reach beyond traditional IT teams to a•ract and engage the growing contingent of professionals focused on the challenges with the business of law. We must create professional development opportunities centered on thinking strategically, decision- making, communication and leadership skills to enhance participants' ILTA experience and equip all members to contribute to the success of their organizations. We must do all of this with flexibility and creativity while remaining true to our purpose and core values." ILTA Names New CEO: The People, The Process and ILTA's Bright Future ASK THE EXPERT ILTA Names New CEO: The People, The Process and ILTA's Bright Future The Board sought an executive search firm with a strong record of success and deep understanding of the association industry to assist ILTA with the CEO search process. The Board hired Ve•ed Solutions to conduct interviews with current and past leaders of the organization and all staff to develop an informed CEO position profile. The six-person search commi•ee assessed the future of the organization and identified key a•ributes needed in our next leader. And the search was on. What factors did the Board consider in selecting the diverse members of the search team? Meredith: The Board of Directors wanted the search commi•ee to represent diversity in responsibilities, backgrounds, experiences and thought processes and diversity in firm size and type. Bob: The diversity and experience of the search commi•ee provided a balanced approach to look for the new CEO. Why did you join the search committee? Chris B.: I valued the opportunity to help find the next leader of ILTA. With ILTA's potential for growth, the right CEO will be essential for ILTA to capitalize on opportunities. Chris E.: I care deeply about the long-term relevance and prominence of ILTA. I believe my experience at work and with ILTA enabled me to bring a unique perspective to the process. Michele: Helping to select the next ILTA leader was an amazing opportunity to give back. How did you determine what ILTA needs next? Bob: Determining ILTA's needs was based on conversations with many stakeholders, research about other associations and input from Randi. We've concluded the search, and the ILTA family welcomes Dan Liutikas as our new Chief Executive Officer.
