here's no shortage of attention-grabbing headlines around security breaches, and when the names of prominent law firms are part of those headlines, our collective angst is elevated. Now, too, our collective approach to combat the growing threats is ramping up. This issue of the magazine provides background information and initiative — a peer-inspired,
peer-driven program that will aid our profession in securing itself. Regardless of specific titles or roles within our firms and legal departments, securing our clients' data is everyone's responsibility. Starting at the highest executive level, tighter, smarter security must be developed, supported, communicated and trained.
This initiative can't be undertaken in a vacuum, and we look to our sister associations and alliances, our vendor community and nonmember firms to join us in building safeguards that are good for the entire legal community. Art Coviello, Executive Vice President of EMC and Executive Chairman of its RSA Division, said, "An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us." We must be united in our counterattack, as we believe that a unified defense will produce a unified victory to expose, avert and mitigate security threats.
