7 WWW.ILTANET.ORG From ILTA's Leadership MESSAGES I love going into a new year celebrating the potential for personal and professional growth. It's a "looking forward" mindset that is the root of positive change. The contributors to this issue of our magazine know a lot about positive change, and they're providing wonderful advice and first- hand experiences from which you'll benefit. It's also great to close out our 2016 editorial cycle in collaboration with many of our sister associations. You'll find sage advice from authors representing AALL, ALA, ARMA and LMA. These and many other associations in the legal sphere have common missions to keep you moving forward in your career path. And speaking of membership associations, one of our content contributors opines that volunteerism is a great career booster, and I couldn't agree more. Our authors come from many disciplines. Regardless of your role in your firm or law department, your position along your career path, or the intensity of your commitment to the beerment of yourself and your team, you will learn something here. And the value of the knowledge you'll acquire is most evident when you pay it forward. Professionalism and leadership are distinct sets of behaviors, but they dance together all the time. Positive change in one area leads to positive change in the other. With gratitude to our generous community of knowledge-sharers, I close this leer wishing you a 2017 that provides many positive changes for you and the world. Magazine of the International Legal Technology Association Professional Development Sharpen Your Skills As we close 2016 and reflect on this year of evolution within the organization, it offers a chance to celebrate many successes and look forward to continued growth and positive change. Many thanks to all members who cast their votes in the balloting process that was held in early November. Our members approved changes to our bylaws that reflect a modification to the process by which our Board of Directors are elected. Those changes are already in motion, as interviews are underway of candidates for the new Talent Council. This team will be tasked with conducting the 2017 Board of Directors election. You will see a call for nominations for the Board in early 2017. The Talent Council's work doesn't stop there, and it includes continuous identification and development of leadership talent within the organization. Important work! Our Board completed its work in seeking a new CEO in advance of Randi Mayes' retirement in 2017. We're excited to herald a new public face for the organization, and our Board, volunteers and professional staff look forward to creating a successful path for our new chief staff officer. November was an active month for ILTA events, with our highly successful INSIGHT conference in London and our Leadership NEW.0 symposium in Chicago. Both events had good aendance and great feedback; we look to continually improve our offerings in those areas, and we have a specific strategic growth initiative in the European market. Our Board now turns its focus to the development of our next strategic plan, one that will guide the organization for the next few years. We look to set a vision that acknowledges the many risks we face and articulates opportunities to achieve success in providing premier educational and networking opportunities within a rapidly changing environment. We always appreciate your input, so please reach out to any Board member with your ideas and concerns. As we close another remarkable year in ILTA's history, I thank you, our members and sponsors, for your incredible thought leadership and your generous spirit of sharing. I wish you all a wonderful 2017; and we'll work together in achieving success. MEREDITH L. WILLIAMS ILTA President mlwilliams@bakerdonelson.com
