Six Sigma in E-Discovery
FEATURES
» How would opposing counsel, the court or your
manager rate you in terms of how well you met
their initial requirements? Did you recognize their
critical-to-quality issues (those key characteristics
that must be met to satisfy the client)? The CTQ
issues should fully align your improvement efforts
with the customer's requirements.
The goal is to document your project's effectiveness and
efficiency.
Definitions: Effectiveness is the degree to which
you have met or exceeded your customers'
requirements as well as your case team's needs and
requirements. Efficiency is the amount of resources
(time, people or budget) you have consumed in
trying to be effective.
Are you being effective and efficient in your inputs, processes and outputs?
» Measuring your "inputs" will include all quality and delivery requirements you place on third
parties and vendors that provide your services.
» Measuring your "processes" will include anything that affects your overall cost, time, labor and
value.
» Measuring your "outputs" will determine how well you are meeting the needs and requirements
of outside counsel and the courts during every step of your project or case.
It's All About Value
Six Sigma helps you understand the "voice of your customer" to measure what they need and
require at every stage or phase. It does not maer if you are an e-discovery service provider or a
litigation support professional at a national law firm, you must understand that value is defined
by your customer, and customers notice variations, not just averages. Six Sigma gives you the
knowledge and tools to reduce variations and defects in your processes. P2P
