If they are able to accomplish this, and if people are actually willing to be implanted with an input device, both the mouse and keyboard will become obsolete. Screen size and clarity are critical today, but what if your "screen" was projected onto your field of vision using special glasses or contact lenses? This is not a futuristic technology; it is something that Google is testing right now. The current prototype uses special glasses to project data and there are already plans for a contact lens version. There are some concerns about this type of technology … if you think it's dangerous to drive while texting, can you imagine driving while being chased by a trove of hunters from Halo 3? Direct Connection Is the Future The changes that are going to take place in the mobile computing market over the next eight years will fundamentally alter the laptops versus iPads discussion. For the present, we can only try to let the job determine the tool and not fall prey to the idea that one platform is always superior to the other. Both tablets and laptops have their advantages and disadvantages. However, eight years from now, both devices will be probably be marginalized as new tools connect directly to your eyes and mind — becoming far superior to what either device has to offer.
