Is Near" and information gathered by Wikipedia, by the year 2020, Kurzweil predicts: THE SCIENCE BEHIND PROFISCIENCY We've got the key you've been looking for • A $1,000 personal computer will have the same processing power as a human brain. • Effective natural language processing, speech recognition and speech synthesis will allow people to communicate with their computers via two-way speech and gestures instead of through the use of keyboards. Most of this interaction will occur through computerized assistants with different personalities that the user can select or customize. Dealing with computers thus becomes more and more like dealing with a human being. Learning Management • Real-time foreign language translation appliances will be of high quality and routinely used in conversations. • Computers will cease being distinct physical objects as displays are built into our eyeglasses and electronics woven into our clothing, providing a full-immersion virtual reality. They will also come with speakers or headphone attachments that will complete the experience with sounds. SharePoint Integration This conjures images of attorneys speaking into space or Skill Assessment cameras while visiting "in person" with clients in vivid life-like clarity. Information will be retrieved from servers in the cloud with simple verbal commands and gestures. Communication will be effortlessly initiated; and process management, such as adding to task lists, calendaring and updating knowledge bases, will be simple matters of informing one's own omnipresent computer. Adding support to Kurweil's predictions, another diviner — Dave Evans, Chief Futurist of Cisco — provided the following prognostications in his 2009 article "Top 25 Technology Predictions": • Within two years, information on the Internet will double every 11 hours. Profisciencē Partners can unlock the portal to Learning and Performance Management Leverage technology investments & resources Improve organizational performance Meet bottom line objectives Produce better lawyers Win more business Be sure to stop by our booth #635 at ILTA 2012 in Washington, DC www. p r ofi s cie nce .com • By 2020, a $1,000 personal computer will have the raw processing power of a human brain. • By 2015, video calling will be pervasive, generating 400 Exabytes of data — the equivalent of 20 million Libraries of Congress. • By 2020, universal language translation will be commonplace in every device. Does any of that sound familiar? Have I died and gone to heaven? Not just yet, but I love the vision of a future that is a short eight years away. 58 Peer to Peer
