We're also currently testing some XenApp-published applications that have modified display parameters to make them more touch-friendly. • Time Entry: The main initiative behind our iOS deployments was time entry, which is done via APS DTE Axiom and the iDTE app. While adoption had a slow start, we've seen the application become more popular, especially for iPad users. • DropBox Clone: We've also been able to leverage our Juniper SSL's portal features to present functionality similar to DropBox. This gives users access to retrieve and review some of their home-drive files and documents through iOS compatible apps, mitigating some concerns with third-party cloud-based solutions. • Internal Web Resources: We push Web Clips to each iOS device so users can have instant access to our website, intranet, surveys, evals, etc. • IT Administration: Of course, we in technology also enjoy being able to log in to a server or console from the couch or dog park, using any of the available RDP and SSH apps on the market. Better, But Not Perfect While the MDM can and has made the burden of deploying iOS (and Android) devices in the enterprise easier and scalable, there is still a lot of room for improvement. There is no easy way to deploy policies and configuration for third-party apps. During provisioning, apps such as the Citrix Receiver and iDTE required some level of manual configuration. While Apple and MDM vendors seem keen on making iOS a force in the enterprise, we also anticipate a future where the "M" in "mobile" gets redefined as "mixed" device management with tablets, "transformers," ChromeBooks and Windows 8 obscuring the lines of what will get placed on the desktop and how it will be managed. With the mobile device landscape changing once again, I sometimes wonder if it's about time for me to get a BlackBerry ... just to be "different."
