LITIGATION AND PRACTICE SUPPORT 32 WWW.ILTANET.ORG | ILTA WHITE PAPER Spotlight on Strategic Relationships ILTA's Strategic Relationship Program recognizes the importance of key relationships and creates opportunities for meaningful dialogs to support educational programming, to provide member feedback that informs future product/service development and to ensure ILTA's involvement in standard-setting initiatives. Spotlight on Strategic Relationships How is legal technology evolving, and what does it mean for litigation support professionals? Look at anyone walking down the street: That person likely has a device in-hand and has technology working in the background at home and at work. Continuous connectivity is ever-present in our lives, but that doesn't mean people are thinking about technology more than they used to. They might think about it less. Rather than marveling at the technology behind their devices, people blindly enjoy the experience being delivered. That same evolution must accelerate for legal technology. We need our legal tech experiences to get more user-friendly and intuitive and get us (and our clients) to outcomes more seamlessly. That's the approach we've taken as we designed Thomson Reuters eDiscovery Point. We want our users to use the system and let the amazing technology fade to the background. We are drowning in data, especially when managing big-ticket litigation matters. Our clients are asking us to work more efficiently and provide clear direction on e-discovery costs. What are you hearing in the marketplace? A recent survey conducted by Icanmakeitbeer and Thomson Reuters indicated that an overwhelming 92 percent of respondents reported there is room for improvement in the e-discovery technology they employ. The top three shortcomings cited by respondents included: • Difficult to use • Lack of power and capability • Inadequate service Thomson Reuters created eDiscovery Point to address these issues, giving legal professionals greater control over the e-discovery process as they save time and money and deliver the best results in the most efficient manner. We also heard loud and clear that paying upfront for processing, without knowing how much of the data will be relevant enough to send to review, doesn't make sense. In response, we are trying something different. eDiscovery Point allows you to upload and process the data, use our search and data assessment tools, and only pay for the documents you send to review. That's the only charge you will see on the invoice, and that allows you to have more informed client conversations about costs. What makes eDiscovery Point different from other offerings in the marketplace? In one word: intuitive. You can use it without referencing a manual. Beyond that, your searches are backed by Thomson Reuters' robust infrastructure, reliable security and cuing-edge technology. Litigation professionals will really see the difference. To help us get the experience right, we set up a design partner program with four law firms across the United States. They gave us access to their teams, so we dove deeply into their work, their client interactions and their current vendor experiences. That insight has been invaluable. Where can ILTA members learn more about how to tackle e-discovery challenges? We're hosting a webinar for ILTA members about the challenges litigation support professionals are facing and the meaningful solutions out there to help ease their burden. You can also schedule a live demo of eDiscovery Point. Learn more about ILTA's Strategic Relationships at www. iltanet.org/about/ilta-srls. ILTA Catherine Monte, Chief Knowledge Officer at Fox Rothschild LLP and ILTA's Strategic Relationship Liaison for Thomson Reuters, Practice of Law, recently spoke with Eric Laughlin, Managing Director of Thomson Reuters Corporate Segment and Legal Managed Services. Here they reflect on how Thomson Reuters, Practice of Law continues to expand on and improve ILTA member services and benefits through our strategic relationship.
