21 WWW.ILTANET.ORG BEST PRACTICES Navigating Through the MDM Soware Market Measuring and tracking these key performance indicators (KPIs) is a great way to show the return on investment (ROI) for your MDM soware. It should increase the boom line and facilitate more business. Create Your Own BYOD Policy Are you thinking of starting an MDM program to manage BYOD in your workplace? Here are some pointers: » Identify what you're trying to secure and manage. Start with low-hanging fruit –– the stuff that's juicy and easy to reach. Think Enterprise server information such as email, calendar and contacts. Then move to something more difficult (applications ranging from time entry and project management to soware key fobs and messaging apps). Finish with the fruit that's hard to reach: proprietary soware and custom-built apps. The easiest approach is to start with core information and move outward to peripheral data and applications. » Understand your user base. Are people using tablets and smartphones or laptops and wearables? Do you have a mix of Android and Windows devices, iOS only or a mix of everything? Are your users traveling internationally, or are they domestic? It is important to identify and understand your target audience, their preferences and their behaviors. » Establish your key stakeholders. From IT and HR to aorneys and paralegals, solicit input from across the spectrum to ensure you're meeting the objective of empowering a mobile workforce. No two BYOD environments are the same, and there will always be slight variations and nuances that must be accounted for in MDM policies. Easy To Manage with MDM BYOD is here to stay, and it's time to embrace all mobile devices in the workplace. With the proper MDM soware and policies, organizations can capitalize on the benefits of a secure mobile workforce. P2P In the summer of 2015, I was stuck in traffic and needed a way out. The traffic lights were out in my neighborhood and Google Maps told a grim story: It would take me an hour to get to the freeway. My daughter suggested using Waze. This free app took me down roads I didn't even know existed, and got me to the freeway in 15 minutes. Waze is similar to Google Maps, but with a focus on crowdsourced information and real-time traffic events. For example, Waze will tell you when a patrol car has been reported ahead, if there is an object in the road or if there is a car pulled off to the side. Preprogram your work and home locations into it, and it will tell you about issues before you leave and suggest alternative routes. You can even earn badges for reporting events. This is a great app for anyone behind the wheel. P2P by Brian Donato of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP Crazy 'bout Waze
