PEER TO PEER: THE QUARTERLY MAGA ZINE OF ILTA 34
FEATURES
To keep pace with the ever-changing demands of a mobile workforce expecting
the ability to perform work anywhere, anytime, more firms are adopting bring your own
device (BYOD) or corporate-owned, personally-enabled (COPE) programs. What type of work
are legal professionals performing with their mobile devices? Is it limited to managing email,
contacts and calendar appointments, or do they do more?
To answer these questions, we recently interviewed lawyers, paralegals, IT
departments, recruiters and other staff members across multiple firms to discover how
legal professionals leverage mobility in their daily work. We heard directly from IT,
helpdesk and mobility advocates about some of the challenges of deploying BYOD and
COPE initiatives across their firms.
MATCH THE DEVICE TO THE TASK
Advances in mobile technologies make it easier for legal professionals to stay connected. The
flexibility to work from anywhere can increase efficiencies, boost productivity and provide a
competitive edge. One respondent told us that when working from home, "I have options for
using my phone or a remote desktop based on the type of work I'm doing. This flexibility is a
huge bonus."
