WWW.ILTANET.ORG 5 FROM THE DIRECTOR FROM THE PRESIDENT Have Questions? Want to Contribute? Contact kristy@iltanet.org It's my distinct privilege to pen my first "Letter from the President" for our magazine, and I'm honored to serve in this role as the organization experiences exciting changes. Our Board of Directors election process took place in the spring, and you'll see the Board listed on page 73. Please reach out to any Board member to let us know how we can address your challenges. You've likely seen reference to a new volunteer structure for ILTA via our monthly electronic New Briefs and references in prior issues of the magazine. It's official — we launched our new model for program planning at the close of ILTACON 2015, and the volunteers who ably serve in new roles can be found on page 76. This new structure looks to create a holistic approach to all ILTA programming, and it's modeled after our very successful conference planning process. It provides an opportunity for volunteer contributions that are specific to areas of expertise and bandwidth for time commitments. There are roles for thought leadership and visionary thinking, as well as discreet tasks in the delivery of defined projects. Visit our "Get Involved" website page at any time to review the opportunities. I'm excited to see great things come from our new teams; they're energized and looking forward to an October planning meeting. This issue of the magazine is themed around mobility, and there is no doubt we are a professional workforce on the go. I hope you can keep a copy of our magazine handy as you move about the globe, and many of ILTA's resources are always accessible via the Web. It was great to see many of you at ILTACON 2015, and I hope you make an effort to connect with your peers via our online communities and local networking events. Peer connections are the most valuable component of the ILTA experience. Meredith L. Williams ILTA President mlwilliams@bakerdonelson.com Dolly Parton could not have foreseen how "always on" our professional workforce would become when she penned "Workin' 9:00 to 5:00; what a way to make a livin'." It's likely that many of us are reviewing our email backlog as we "stumble to the kitchen;" and we will be monitoring a Twitter feed, checking Facebook and getting a local traffic report as we poor that "cup of ambition." Mobility is intrinsic to our work; so much so that we'll likely see the phrase "mobile workforce" atrophy rapidly in the coming years. There won't be another professional workforce other than a mobile one. Gadgets and widgets and apps . . . oh, my! It's enough to make your chief security officer hide under the bed. Successful mobile strategies require diligence in learning and heeding policies, procedures and best practices around information governance, security and interoperability. Our contributors to this magazine have successes to share, and you'll see mobility examined from every angle. We've got details on successful mobile device deployments, an in-depth review of Office 365, data management practices, pitfalls and lessons learned. I've barely scratched the Surface Pro ;-). Mobility is both a life- and career-changing boon and a cautionary tale. The content provided here will bolster your understanding of and appreciation for the highly complex challenges of supporting mobile workers. As Dolly said, "It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it." Read and enjoy — in or out of the office! Randi Mayes Executive Director randi@iltanet.org
