When an influx of remote connection issues are reported, Ping & DNS gives you the ability to run traceroutes to your site from your phone. Other tools within the app include DNS and reverse DNS lookups, SSL scanning, WHOIS queries, geo-location lookups and more. Wifi Analyzer allows members of the IT department to troubleshoot the wireless network in the office. If you have attorneys on multiple floors within a building, this app can help you determine the best locations to place access points to maximize connectivity. Both apps are very handy! What's the best "killer app" for business use? DISCOVER WHAT'S ON YOUR NETWORK name . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mike Paul company . . . Innovative Computing Systems website . . . . . . . .www.innovativecomp.com If I need a quick method to perform discovery on the network, one of the first tools I turn to is Advanced IP Scanner. This utility, distributed as freeware, offers a powerful toolset to locate and identify systems on a network. You can initiate ping, telnet and traceroute commands within the user interface, saving time and clicks. You can identify endpoint manufacturers from their Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) records to answer the question, "What is that device?" A list of endpoints can be easily exported into a spreadsheet report, and the app can run as a standalone without a full install. Advanced IP Scanner is a killer business app for IT professionals. As more professionals operate globally, trying to guess time zones and plan meetings can become a nightmare. Anuko World Clock is an app I've downloaded that places in the system tray as many time zones as I want (I track eight). It also has a great "meeting planner" function to plan meetings across time zones. It costs $25, but it's worth it; I've been using it for years.
