., Netbooks). Cellphones: Ignoring the car-mounted and similar "transportable" phones, the 1.75-pound Motorola DynaTAC 8000x also arrived in 1983 as the world's first commercial cellphone. Priced at $3,995, these devices had an eight-hour standby time and 30-minute talk time. With time, standalone mobile phones also reached their reduction limit, arguably with the Motorola StarTAC clamshell phones at 3.1 ounces in 1996. Pagers: Commercial pagers became available in 1974 and evolved slowly to add numeric paging, alpha-numeric paging and, finally, two-way messaging. It wasn't until 1999 when Research In Motion (RIM) released the BlackBerry 850 in Germany (yes, BlackBerry has only been around for 12 years) that modern mobile two-way messaging became a reality. Yet, adoption was slow. It took five years to reach one million users; however, the second and third million came one year and then 10 months after that, respectively. Personal Computers (PCs): The PC is ubiquitous and the "portable" platform has progressed significantly from the 28-pound Compaq from 1983. However, there has been limited success in reducing the weight below three pounds (not including the power supply) without adversely affecting battery life, performance, display size or data entry. Many of the limits are due to the miniaturization of a legacy form factor never intended to be a mobile device ( Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs): While many recall, nostalgically, the Pilot 1000 by Palm — which was released in 1996 — as the first PDA, it was in fact the Psion Organiser II from 1986 that paved the way. It was the former that ushered in the commercial success of a platform operating system, which allowed anyone with the aptitude and ideas to create practical and novel applications for the masses. Cameras: Although cameras have been around since the early 1800s, it wasn't until 1990 that the first commercially available digital camera was on the market with the Dycam Model 1. The first camera cellphone introduced to the masses was the J-SH04 in Japan in 2000. Picture quality stood at 0.1 megapixels, a huge difference from the 12-megapixel smartphones of today. Gaming Consoles: Released in 1989, the Game Boy was the first commercially successful Legal Calendar and Docketing — Could it be that easy? Docket Enterprise provides a comprehensive calendar and docket solution that is ideally suited for both litigation and non-litigation practice areas. See just how easy it is. Contact i.e
