Paralegals find these images extremely useful in presentations in a case that involves a large area where details need to be seen in context, such as a zoning board hearing where the area under consideration needs to be examined in terms of what properties already exist, a real estate development matter, an accident site or when a pile of items needs to be inventoried. With the increasing opportunities for gigapanography to provide in-depth detail during cases, how does one create such images? Tech Potpourri ILTA White Paper WHAT IS A "GIGAPAN" IMAGE? "Giga" is a prefix meaning "billion," and another word for the gigapan image might be gigapixel. However, a gigapan image is not just a huge digital image, and therefore the term gigapan is preferred. Gigapans are images, yes, that are panoramas (hence the "pan" portion of the new term), but they are also: • Approximately a gigabyte in size rather than a megabyte • Created with your lens zoomed in upon the detail
