2. Visuals Are Great for Learning: According
to a study conducted by the U.S. Department
of Labor, "Presenting Effective Presentations
with Visual Aids," 83 percent of human learning
occurs visually. Another study by the Wharton
School of Business compared purely verbal
presentations with ones that combined both
verbal and visual components, concluding that
the latter were 67 percent more persuasive to
test audiences.
3. Visuals Enhance Information Retention:
The previously mentioned study by the U.S.
Department of Labor revealed that information
retention for a presentation using both oral and
visual means can be as much as six times greater
than when the presentation is done by spoken
word alone.
Jerome Bruner, a psychologist from New
York University, conducted studies concluding
that people remember only 10 percent of what
they hear and 20 percent of what they read, but
about 80 percent of what they see and do.
A psychological study conducted and
published in the Quarterly Journal of Experimental
Psychology by Lionel Standing in 1973 concluded
that people memorize pictures faster than words,
remembering them better over time. Another
interesting find from the study shows that when
given sets of images and words of equal size, one
word for every picture, people can memorize
