ILTA WHITE PAPER: JUNE 2014 WWW.ILTANET.ORG 3 This is not an industry that stands still, and it can feel like we're in a never-ending obstacle course to find the right people, processes and technology. Faced with exploding volumes of information to manage, increasing variety and complexity of data types, growing expectations among clients and other stakeholders regarding cost and process efficiency, and heightened scrutiny by courts and regulators, many law firms and corporations – including those with well-established and sophisticated discovery technology and processes – recently have found themselves considering new solutions. Among ILTA members and others in our industry, one of the most common questions posed during the past year has seemed to be "We're thinking of switching from [discovery application/ system used for a long time]. What do you use?" Next-generation technology that provides more advanced capabilities can be part of a good solution, but that's really just one piece. In this white paper, we address many areas to consider and steps to take in the journey toward implementing a new solution. I'd like to extend our sincere appreciation to all who took the time to share their experiences by writing articles or participating in interviews for this digital publication. Also, kudos to ILTA's Litigation & Practice Support Peer Group Steering Committee, including Stephen Dooley and Cindy MacBean, who crafted the theme and helped assemble the great content before you. Whether you're jumping over hurdles, trudging through the mud or hopping through tires, you're sure to find a way to conquer your obstacles as we explore discovery solutions: process, products and progress. Joanne Lane Vice President of ILTA's Litigation and Practice Support Peer Group FROM THE PEER GROUP Successful litigation and practice support professionals, including those who focus on e-discovery, thrive in an environment that presents new challenges requiring creative solutions.
