providing experiential learning opportunities. Most important, they work with the Learning and Development team to capture knowledge and skills, as well as keep the team updated. In addition to using the competency model as a development tool, the firm is also better prepared to identify and overcome potential skill gaps that can occur when knowledge leaves an organization. If a competency appears to be in short supply, specific emphasis is placed on learning experientially from one of the SMEs so that appropriate levels of expertise are consistently available.
